Baton Rouge, Louisiana, June 16, 1989. Today, Fifth Generation Systems, Inc. began shipping its new Fastback II, the most powerful, versatile backup program available. The Fastback II program was developed to take advantage of Macintosh technology and the needs of the sophisticated hard disk user or users with sensitive data. Fastback II is not a ported version of Fastback Plus, but an entirely new program written by a development team headed by Mark Graybill, an expert in backup technology. The new program addresses the power requirements of advanced users combined with an easy-to-use, clean interface that takes the drudgery out of backup.
Fastback II backs up an honest megabyte per minute. Although the program has always been fast, now Fifth Generation has added the power of data compression, data conversion from files backed up with Fastback Plus on an IBM compatible computer, a complete macro control language with a scheduling facility to automate even the most complex backup schedule, and support for any HFS device.

NEW FEATURES:
Data Compression - Fastback II offers three compression choices with 20-80% data compression: off for no compression; Save Time, which compresses data using an extremely fast and efficient single-pass scheme; and Save Disks, which uses state-of-the-art compression routines to squeeze files to absolute minimum size.
Enhanced Device Support - Fastback II will back up to any HFS device (high capacity floppies, hard drives, Bernoulli cartridges, tape, WORM) or any ANSI tape device. The program will also alternate media types or drives during backup to allow for floppy disk or tape switching or to allow backup overflow to be written to the hard drive.
Multifinder Compatible - Fastback II can perform backups and restores in Multifinder background mode.

Macro Control Language and Scheduling Facility - Automate even the most complex backup schedules. Combine daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly schedules with full, incremental or differential backups, all running unattended. New Setup files also let you save all of your backup and restore settings to avoid tedious repetition. Separate setup files can be created and combined with macros and scheduling.
File Transfer - When using a network, Apple File Exchange or a Macintosh which supports high density diskettes, Fastback II allows restoration of files backed up with Fastback Plus for easy PC to Macintosh data transfer without purchasing additional data transfer software.
